John Motil, operations manager of TDI explains why in the post below: "We bought quite a few when Springfield Armory brought them out around 2003. While the ergonomics were excellent the gun had more problems than other similar guns. Springfield was selling so many that they never addressed the issues. First the finish wasn't rust resistant.

Here's his original statement from April 27 : "The legislative process is a fluid process. The bill has only moved through one chamber, and it is still in the process.
Smart Gun Beaten By Dumb Magnets – [Plore], a hacker with an interest in safe cracking, read a vehemently anti-smart-gun thread in 2015. With the words “Could you imagine what the guys at DEF CON could do with this?”.
Dave Williams, an expert gun builder in Springfield's custom shop, tells me that the XD recoil spring assembly should last for at least 20,000 rounds and that the extractor will probably be the last part to fail. He reports that in testing XDs have had 30,000 to 40,000 rounds put through them without extractors losing tension.

Springfield's explanation was they didn't realize what they were funding, and cut ties. But it left a bad taste in a lot of people, myself included. Personally I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Because I don't want to attribute to malice, what can be explained by incompetence. ChanceMcCall, wmg1299 and Bear007 wmg1299 Professional Aug 31, 2021
Aug 27, 2019. #8. I went 1911—> XD—–> m&p—-> Glock now I find myself carrying czs frequently. The only problem I had with the XD series is once the grip safety on a subcompact model not disengaging. Oh and that the rear sights were ridiculously hard to replace.

The main reason why people hate on the XD is because they don't like Springfield Armory Inc. The HS2000 (which the XD is a rebrand of) cost only $280-320 (MSRP $410) when made by its original Croatian company. When Springfield rebranded it, it magically went up by $200-400. Same exact model, equal quality. At its original price, the HS2000.
Used 2014 Toyota Tundra for sale – I, only, wish that it had intermittent wipers. Very reliable and comfortable! Used After a BAD experience at Carmax. I decided to look at Ford of Littleton. It was absolutely the best decision.
Then there are those who do not like XDs because they don't fit their hands, and thus can't shoot them well. The XD probably fits a more wide variety of hand sizes than Glocks of course. Everyone has their own opinion, and they're entitled to it. Only thing you can do is enjoy your XDs, and let the haters enjoy what they prefer. sourpatch45
Here's why. Reliability I've had Springfield Armory XD pistols coming through my classes since they were introduced in the early 21 st century: they're probably in the top five of "most popular" guns there. It isn't just because they're economically priced; classes like mine aren't cheap, and students simply don't show up there with junk guns.
The XD-S delivers on Springfield Armory's promises. It's small, lightweight and easy to conceal. It has great ergos, an excellent trigger and shoots a cartridge that puts the .380 to shame. With six in the gun (seven with the extended mag) you have more than enough firepower to extricate yourself from a bad situation. Uh-oh. Caliber wars!

There are two main problems with the XD: It was designed wrong, and it is built wrong. Apart from general sloppiness in manufacturing and spotty quality control, the XD has a number of design.
However the safety of our customers is everything to us here at Springfield Armory, and this upgrade makes the XD-S a better gun, and a safer a gun. The trigger pull is slightly smoother, slightly heavier, and everyone who has tested the upgraded gun says that they shoot the XD-S better with the upgrade, and that it is more accurate as a result. "
